I'm Alexi Lowe, and I would love if you helped me out and donated to the American Heart Association.
I have wanted to be a Sweetheart for the Tulsa Heart Ball as soon as I discovered what it stood for and the purpose it had. Cardiovascular diseases and strokes are very personal to me as it has effected my close family.
I first learned about cardiovascular disease when my mom shared a story with me about my great grandpa who will always be my Myrtle Beach grandpa. When he was in his 50's he was scheduled for a routine procedure and his doctor insisted he take a few tests prior to the procedure even though he was a healthy man. Little did he know that that doctor saved his life by insisting on those tests.
The tests revealed my great grandpa had blockages in his heart that required an immediate triple bi pass. The surgery was not an easy one and my mom remembers waiting at the hospital not knowing what was going to happen but in the end he recovered and is still with us today. My great grandpa's brother had passed away from the same health condition that my great grandpa had years before that caused a heart attack, the only difference is my great grandpa had a doctor that was insistent that he take these tests even though there were no prior history and he was a healthy man.
Both of my dad's grandpa and granny had suffered from strokes that ended up taking their lives. My dad's grandpa was a healthy man that worked everyday on his land, however, a stroke took him. With the work that the American Heart Association is doing I believe doctors would be able to understand strokes better and have the capability to discover what causes them before they happen so they can prevent them.
I'm doing this for my Myrtle Beach Grandpa, my Great Grandpa Blakemore and my Granny Lowe so that I can make a difference in others lives by supporting a cause that can save so many lives and show kindness in every action I do through advocating for the fight against cardiovascular diseases and strokes.
