Heart disease has personally touched my family. I lost two grandfathers to heart disease the last two years - my mom's Dad Charley and her Stepdad Dale.
In May, one of my mother's dearest friends awoke in the middle of the night with a racing heart rate - above 250 bpm. Her husband rushed her to the ER and they learned she had an electrical malfunction. This is an incredibly healthy, fit woman who runs marathons, works out, skis and hikes mountains. She had three surgeries in five days and will have a pacemaker the rest of her life.
And earlier this year, two of my parents' friends learned their infant son needed heart surgery. He just celebrated his first birthday and is quite the heart warrior.
I know that heart disease touches all ages and I want to help. I am honored to be a Sweetheart in the 2018-19 Heart Ball
